Higher Seminar in Theoretical Philosophy: Asger Kirkeby-Hinrup "Consciousness Studies: No one knows anything, yet everyone is fighting"

In light of recent controversies, I offer a two-part diagnose of the state of interdisciplinary consciousness studies. The first part will endeavor to argue that our understanding of the phenomenon (consciousness) is critically incomplete (no one knows anything, or no one can claim to know anything). The second part considers the state of the field (studies) and how debates are conducted (everyone is fighting), with a particular attention to possible reasons why debates are so heated. The hope is that by keeping in mind the first part (how little we know) we may alleviate the more troublesome aspects of the second part.
