Higher Seminar in Theoretical Philosophy: Fredrik Österblom "Draft of Chapter 9 of Dissertation on Explication"

I will present chapter 9 of my dissertation. It is an outgrowth of and development of the chapter which I presented at my last higher seminar. In this chapter I will do two things. First, I argue for the benefit of having general criteria of explication, which are applicable in all cases, in contrast to contextual criteria, which are separately specified for each case. Second, I propose a modification of Carnap’s method of explication, i.e. a modified set of criteria of adequacy. I propose both to liberalize  Carnap’s criteria and to add new criteria.
