Reduced myelinated nerve fibre and endoneurial capillary densities in the forearm of diabetic and non-diabetic patients with carpal tunnel syndrome.

The underlying basis of carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) and the basis of its increased incidence in diabetes are unknown. We have quantified pathology in an uncompressed nerve (posterior interosseous nerve, PIN) in the forearm between diabetic and non-diabetic patients with CTS and control subjects. In an age- and gender-matched series, 26 diabetic patients with CTS and 20 non-diabetic patients with

No evidence of intrauterine transmission of hepatitis A virus from a mother to a premature infant.

Aim: To determine whether or not an intrauterine transmission of hepatitis A virus (HAV) occurred from an infected mother to her premature infant delivered by caesarean section. Methods: The mother and her child were tested for HAV by serology and reverse transcription PCR. Results: An outbreak of HAV infection was seen among children and a 33-year-old day-care teacher, pregnant in third trimester

We have needs, too: parental needs during a child’s hospitalisation

The influence of demographic characteristics on the perceived needs of parents in a sample of staff and parents of admitted children in a paediatric hospital in Sweden were examined as part of a project in Sweden, England, Indonesia and Australia. Over 100 parents and 100 staff responded and responses compared, including perceived importance of each of the 51 needs. Few needs were influenced by de

Laser-Induced Phosphor Thermometry - Feasibility and Precision in Combustion Applications

I en tid då priset på olja ständigt slår nya rekord, lagstiftningen kring miTemperature is one of the most fundamental parameters to be measured in many research disciplines. In combustion science, a thorough knowledge of temperature is essential for improving and optimizing combustion processes. Increasingly strict environmental legislation, greater demands for energy, and efforts to reduce dependence upon fossil fuels are forcing the combustion industry to obtain more a

Lovers of Muhammad : A Study of Naqshbandi-Haqqani Sufis in the Twenty-First Century

This thesis aims to contribute, both empirically and theoretically, to the field of study within Islamology that concerns contemporary Sufism in non-Muslim majority societies. It does so by investigating how activities and narratives provide meaning and identity for participants in the transnational Sufi movement Naqshbandi-Haqqani. This movement is led by the Turkish Cypriot Shaykh Muhammad Nazim

Extremely compact dual-band PIFAs for MIMO application

A MIMO structure consisting of two extremely compact planar inverted-F antennas (PIFAs) (lambda/60×lambda/20×lambda/60) is proposed for GSM 900 MHz and 2.4 GHz wireless local area network applications. The miniaturisation of each antenna is achieved through a spiral-shaped PIFA and a capacitive load, forming a LC resonator. Both antennas have a good impedance bandwidth of 0.88–0.945 and 2.39–2.48
