Imaging brain tumour microstructure

Imaging is an indispensable tool for brain tumour diagnosis, surgical planning, and follow-up. Definite diagnosis, however, often demands histopathological analysis of microscopic features of tissue samples, which have to be obtained by invasive means. A non-invasive alternative may be to probe corresponding microscopic tissue characteristics by MRI, or so called ‘microstructure imaging’. The prom

Utskicket tilldrygt 1200 adressater gav 416 svar.Sammanfattningsvis visar vår enkätstudie att utvä

Place brand communication as aspirational talk : – further exploring the constitutive model of communication

This paper introduces the concept of aspirational talk to examine the constitutive features of place brand communication. Aspirational talk builds on a performative view of communication and is characterised by a gap between future-oriented visionary talk and concrete action. The study explores place brand communication as aspirational talk through a qualitative case study of how place branding is

Tracing Renal Cell Carcinomas back to the Nephron

Renal cell carcinomas (RCCs) are a heterogeneous group of tumors derived from the epithelial cells of the nephron. In recent years the genetic landscape of these tumors has been detailed, leading to progress in mouse modeling of the human disease. In parallel, substantial advancements have been made in describing the transcriptional programs of normal nephron cell types and how they respond to ren

Signatures of local adaptation along environmental gradients in a range-expanding damselfly (Ischnura elegans)

Insect distributions are shifting rapidly in response to climate change and are undergoing rapid evolutionary change. We investigate the molecular signatures underlying local adaptation in the range-expanding damselfly, Ischnura elegans. Using a landscape genomic approach combined with generalized dissimilarity modelling (GDM), we detect selection signatures on loci via allelic frequency change al

Sociodemographic Characteristics and Health Profile of the Elderly Seeking Health Care in Kampala, Uganda

Aging entails health challenges globally, but pertinent data from low-income countries like Uganda remains scarce. A cross-sectional study was carried out at Mulago National Referral Hospital in Kampala, among 134 patients (38% men and 62% women) aged ≥60 years. Data was collected on sociodemographic characteristics, medical disorders, cognitive function, hearing handicap, and functional status, t

The lived body – Both the vehicle and the message : A longitudinal case study

From early childhood, Hanna, born with Spinal Muscular Atrophy II, has adhered to a standing posture for all her independent locomotion. Aim: To investigate why Hanna in childhood chose to stand and the meaning that standing holds for Hanna as an adult. Method: Single case study of a single person, Hanna, based on her contemporary statements as an adult about her lived experience from childhood, i

Theoretical study of combined acousto-optical tomography and slow light filters

Monte Carlo simulations were used to determine the contrast-to-noise ratio of acoustooptical tomographic imaging with slow light filters versus possible imaging depth. Both reflection and transmission setups were considered. The theoretical model showed that imaging through 12 cm of breast tissue could be plausible.

Targeting transcriptional control of soluble guanylyl cyclase via NOTCH for prevention of cardiovascular disease

Soluble guanylyl cyclase (sGC) is an effector enzyme of nitric oxide (NO). Recent work has unravelled how levels of this enzyme are controlled, and highlighted a role in vascular disease. We provide a timely summary of available knowledge on transcriptional regulation of sGC, including influences from the NOTCH signalling pathway and genetic variants. It is speculated that hypertension-induced rep

Mortality and causes of death among people who inject amphetamine : A long-term follow-up cohort study from a needle exchange program in Sweden

Background: Abuse of amphetamines is a worldwide problem with around 34 million users, and amphetamine is commonly used by people who inject drugs (PWID). Despite this, there is relatively little research on mortality and cause of death among people who use amphetamines primarily. The present study aimed to examine mortality and causes of death among people who inject amphetamine, and compare thes

Chernobyl as the Beginning of the End of the Soviet Union

The belief in technology was fundamental in Soviet culture. When the nuclear reactor exploded and harvested souls and spread illness throughout a vast area, over the course of many years, an image of the collapse of the Soviet Union was thereby created. Chernobyl became an image of the apocalypse of communism

Self-reported nonsuicidal self-injury (NSSI) and sex as self-injury (SASI) : Relationship to abuse, risk behaviors, trauma symptoms, self-esteem and attachment

This study focuses on a conceptually unexplored behavior among adolescents who report deliberately using sex as a means of self-injury. In a large high school-based sample (n = 5743), adolescents who engaged in sex as self-injury (SASI, n = 43) were compared to adolescents who reported direct nonsuicidal self-injury (NSSI, n = 933) and those who reported both NSSI and SASI (n = 82). Results showed

DCT-based compression scheme for OFDM baseband signals

The requirements on the data rates of communication systems increase roughly an order of a magnitude at each new generation. This increase can be especially noticeable for the new centralized radio access networks (C-RAN) scenarios, considered for meeting the requirements of the fifth generation (5G) wireless systems. The general C-RAN architecture normally assumes data transmission in the form of

N-type doping and morphology of GaAs nanowires in Aerotaxy

Controlled doping in semiconductor nanowires modifies their electrical and optical properties, which are important for high efficiency optoelectronic devices. We have grown n-type (Sn) doped GaAs nanowires in Aerotaxy, a new continuous gas phase mass production technique. The morphology of Sn doped nanowires is found to be a strong function of dopant, tetraethyltin to trimethylgallium flow ratio,
