Measurement of dijet electroproduction at small jet separation

Deep-inelastic scattering data in the range 150 < Q(2) < 35000 GeV2 are used to investigate the minimum jet separation necessary to allow accurate description of the rate of dijet production using next-to-leading order perturbative QCD calculations. The required jet separation is found to be small, allowing about 1/3 of DIS data to be classified as dijet, as opposed to approximately 1/10 with more

Systematics in the light response of BGO, CsI(T1) and GSO(Ce) scintillators to charged particles

The light response of a BGO crystal has been measured for particles Z = 1-8, A = 1-16 in the energy range similar to2-60 A MeV. The reaction products are identified by a DeltaE(Si) - E(Sci/PD) telescope, The position of the jump in the value of the signal from the PD at the punch-through points is used to calibrate both the DeltaE(Si) and E(Sci/PD) scales in MeV. The dependence of the light output

Det finns inga prospektiva, randomiserade, kontrollerade studier publicerade som värderar effekterna av vertebro- och kyfoplaDuring the last 15 years, two new treatment strategies have gained worldwide attention in the treatment of osteoporotic vertebral fractures. The exponential increase in the use of percutaneous vertebro- or kyphoplasty has up to now not been supported by scientific sound evidence-based data. There exist no prospective randomised controlled trials (RCT) that support the efficacy of the treatments, n

Coordinating Control for a Fleet of Underactuated Ships

We consider design of coordinating controllers for a fleet of underactuated ships. Each ship is modeled as a mechanical system with 3 degrees of freedom and 2 control inputs, which are the propeller thrust and the angle of the rudder; presence of lumped environmental forces is assumed. The proposed motion planning procedure relies. on properties of an auxiliary explicitly constructed second order

Study by isothermal calorimetry and electrophoresis of the interaction between latices and cellulose derivatives

The influence of the latex surface chemistry on the association of latices with different cellulose derivatives has been investigated by means of isothermal calorimetry and electrophoresis. The chemistries of three grades of coating latices differed with regard to the type and amount of vinylic monomer and the level of carboxylation. In addition, a styrene/butadiene latex substantially free from s

Ground-truths or Ground-lies? : environmental sampling for remote sensing application exemplified by vegetation cover data

During time of fast development of computer and sensor technology, ground data sampling strategies have achieved diminished attention in many remote sensing studies. This paper discusses the importance of designing an appropriate sampling scheme of ground data collection for remote sensing applications. The difficulties of achieving a balance between the size and the error of the samples are ident

Genetic and immunological risk factors of gestational diabetes mellitus

GDM-prevalensen varierar avsevärt mellan olika popuGestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is a heterogeneous disorder that is defined as carbohydrate intolerance with onset or first recognition during pregnancy. Impaired beta-cell function and insulin resistance are the hallmarks of GDM. The overall aim of this thesis was to study the genetic and immunological risk factors that increase susceptibility to GDM. First, we investigated whether autoimmuni

Strategies for Industrial Relevance in Software Engineering Education

This paper presents a collection of experiences related to success factors in graduate and postgraduate education. The experiences are mainly concerned with how to make the education relevant from an industrial viewpoint. This is emphasized as a key issue in software engineering education and research, as the main objective is to give the students a good basis for large-scale software development

The hoverfly Criorhina ranunculi – a biodiversity indicator at the landscape level?

The hoverfly Criorhina ranunculi – a biodiversity indicator at the landscape level? The hoverfly Criorhina ranunculi is rare and red-listed in Sweden, but it may be overlooked. I made a detailed inventory of the species in the parish of Stenbrohult, southern Sweden, where the species was found at nine localities in 2006, at one of these with at least ten individuals. The study area, with many othe

I sin förlängning kan detta få nMany of Sweden’s municipal districts show a population decline as well as an uneven population distribution. This pattern is neither desirable nor socially sustainable. Sustainable development is a well-known term often discussed from an ecological perspective. At the same time it is established that social and ecological sustainability are closely linked in several ways. In this dissertation soci

Hemodynamic changes with paradoxical blood flow in expectant management of abruptio placentae

BACKGROUND: Because the early diagnosis of abruption often is missed or misinterpreted, emergency situations frequently do not permit adequate management. CASE: A woman of 26-weeks' gestation was transferred with symptoms and laboratory findings typical for abruption. Ultrasound, including Doppler, revealed a subchorionic hematoma, pathologic blood flow in the uterine arteries, low pulsatility ind

Selecting antonyms for dictionary entries: methodological aspects

This paper investigates the treatment of antonymy in Collins COBUILD Advanced Learner’s English Dictionary (2003) in order to find out what kinds of headwords are provided with antonyms as part of their definitions and also discusses the principles for antonym inclusion in the entries. CCALED includes canonical antonyms such as good/bad and dead/alive, as well as more contextually restricted pairi

Product-service systems for office furniture: barriers and opportunities on the European market

The environmental problems associated with office furniture consumption call for a more efficient use of office furniture that can decrease emissions and, volume of waste. The author discusses the opportunities and barriers for the implementation of a PSS for office furniture. In addition, the paper identifies possibilities to overcome these barriers. The article is based on interviews with Europea

Förhandlingsparlamentarism: en jämförande studie av riksdagen och folketinget

This thesis is about bargaining in the Swedish Riksdag and the Danish Folketing. It departs from the propositions, forwarded by Swedish and Danish scholars. (1) that the level of conflict in the parliaments have increased and (2) that minority governments are weak and unable to pursue a consequent and responsible economic policy. It examines the function of bargaining between political parties (em

Age- and serogroup-related differences in observed durations of nasopharyngeal carriage of penicillin-resistant pneumococci

Using data from an ongoing Swedish intervention project, the observed durations of nasopharyngeal carriage of penicillin-nonsusceptible Streptococcus pneumoniae (PNSP) (MIC of penicillin G of >= 0.5 mu g/ml) stratified by both pneumococcal serogroup and age of the carrier were compared. The means and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were estimated by fitting a gamma distribution to the observed dura
